MEET THE TEAM
It is no accident that the team at Glaukos Australia look so familiar. This ensemble was put together by design by General Manager, Glenn Fawcett, and is made up of individuals who are second to none in terms of ophthalmology experience and passion. They have all worked in surgical sales and collectively have over 206 years of experience in ophthalmology. They share the love of providing support to doctors and their staff to relieve medication burden to glaucoma patients and potentially improve their quality of life.
Glenn graduated with Honours from the University of Liverpool, England in 1995, with a Bachelor of Science (Marine Biology) and a later completed a Masters of Marketing from Monash University in Melbourne. 2022 marks his 25th year working in the Ophthalmology Industry. His first sales role was in Glaucoma and through the years moved into Cataract and Refractive area where he has held sales and marketing management roles. His career has led him full circle back to Glaucoma and in 2015 Glenn became the General Manager of Glaukos Australia. In 2022 came an expanded responsibility for Commercial activities in the Asia Pacific region.
The team across Australia and New Zealand have over 300 years of combined experience in Ophthalmology with an average tenure of 21 years. This depth of ophthalmology knowledge ensures that the team bring value to the surgeons and accounts they call upon, with a true passion for patient outcomes. Throughout the many years Glenn has built a strong reputation for his honesty and support of the ophthalmic professional. The success of any company is built upon great products but also exceptional service and relationships.
Glenn had this to say when asked what he enjoys most about his job: “We are transforming vision at Glaukos, the iStent inject is disruptive technology, just like the many products that Glaukos are developing not only in the Glaucoma market but also for Corneal Health and Retina. This is evident in the successful acquisition of Avedro and incorporating Corneal Cross Linking into our business. At Glaukos we have built the MIGS market and continue to lead the way with our mantra of “We’ll go first”. New, first of their kind, product launches bring challenges from a reimbursement and registration perspective but with a strong team at Glaukos and our partnership with surgeons and societies we look forward to overcoming these and launching many exciting products in the years to come.”
Glenn is the father of two daughters, much time is spent with them. Outside of time with the family, he enjoys road cycling, live music and attempting to play those same songs on the guitar himself.
Malaty graduated in 1996 from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Orthoptics). After graduating, Malaty worked as a clinician at the Royal Blind Society (now Vision Australia).
In 1998, Malaty joined a national refractive laser group where she held various clinical, business development and management roles. In 2003, Malaty joined an ophthalmic device company where she spent 12 years of her career. During her tenure, her roles included: Product Manager (Premium IOLs); Refractive Business Manager; Marketing Manager, Surgical Division (ANZ); Sales Manager, Lasers (ANZ)and Sales Manager, Surgical Division (ANZ).
In 2016, Malaty left the ophthalmology community after 20 years, to pursue her dream of owning her own business. In July 2016, she opened Elegance Nail Spa & Beauty Salon.
But her love of eyes was too strong and she joined the Glaukos team as a consultant in November 2017. In December 2018 Malaty came on board full time as Senior Manager, Marketing. When asked what she enjoys most about working at Glaukos, Malaty says, “I love being part of a team that is so passionate about what they do and working for an organisation that genuinely cares about their people, customers and end patient.”
Malaty has 3 children and recently welcomed her first grandchild. In her spare time, Malaty enjoys spending time with family, running, eating out, G&Ts and binge-watching Netflix!
Sean has been involved in Surgical Ophthalmology for 25 years. He began his career in the UK with Visitec in 1998 before joining Spectrum Ophthalmics UK in 2000 where he was a Regional Sales Manager. In 2006, Sean his wife Emma and two young sons emigrated to Australia to begin a new adventure. After settling in Sydney Sean joined Designs for Vision as National Surgical Manager, during his 10 years with DFV he was instrumental in introducing a number of innovative product to the Australian Market including femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery with the Catalys, HOYA IOL’s and the original iStent in 2014.
In 2016, he joined Glaukos as the Regional Business Manager (Southern NSW) and was promoted to Director of Sales in 2018.
When asked what he enjoys most about working with Glaukos, Sean said, “It’s an extremely privileged position, that allows us to work closely with surgeons introducing new innovation in the treatment of glaucoma and chronic eye disease to Australia patients. To support, train and work with doctors beginning their MIGS journey, and helping those patients suffering severe vision loss as a result of glaucoma is extremely rewarding. Knowing in a small, but important way, we are helping to improving the quality of life of many patients is very satisfying.”
In his free time, Sean enjoys golf, and spending time with family and friends.
Chris graduated from La Trobe University in 1998 where he obtained a Bachelor of Orthoptics. Chris started his career working as a consulting orthoptist in various cataract and refractive practices and day surgeries before moving into ophthalmic surgical sales. Chris joined Glaukos in 2015 with over 24 years of experience in ophthalmology.
His Glaukos colleagues consider Chris the “go to” person for understanding the numerous available iStent clinical studies!
Chris says what he enjoys most about working with Glaukos is, “The teaching and support of clinicians in getting the most out of this technology and the opportunity to bring a technology to patients which may positively impact on their lives.”
Aaron has a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Orthoptics) from the University of Sydney. He has over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology. After 7 years as a clinician in high volume cataract and refractive centres. Before transitioning into surgical sales. His passion for learning and teaching led him into clinical support and training roles.
Aaron joined Glaukos in 2016 and says, “I love teaching and providing clinical support for surgeons. I enjoy clinical discussions and adapting techniques to each individual surgeon and situation.”
In his spare time Aaron enjoys spending time with his family, soccer, gardening and landscaping. He also volunteers at his local football club.
Lee is an optical dispenser by trade and has worked in surgical device sales for most of his career. He has over 30 years of experience in ophthalmology. However, Lee joined the Glaukos family in late 2017.
Lee says that he enjoys working with Glaukos because “the surgical glaucoma space is exciting and cutting edge, being part of an awesome team, locally and globally, whom share a common passion, surgical experiences & learnings and genuine excitement in our products, and most importantly - helping add quality of life to patients.”
In his spare time, Lee likes hanging out with his Wife and Daughter, dog, and a snake (when he can coax it out of its cage), skateboarding, going to the gym and playing indoor cricket.
Amy graduated from La Trobe University with a Degree in Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Sciences. She worked as an orthoptist at practices in Victoria and Queensland early in her career before moving on to become a Surgical Account Manager and Refractive Laser Specialist at a large ophthalmic company. Amy’s strong clinical background and ophthalmic technical knowledge led to her being selected to be part of a specialist team that successfully introduced laser assisted cataract surgery in Australia and New Zealand.
She has over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology.
Amy joined Glaukos in 2015 and says about her role at Glaukos, “I love bringing technological advances to surgeons who can then provide new surgical options to their patients. Medicine is an exciting field and being at the centre of emerging technologies and therapies is incredibly rewarding. Seeing what ophthalmologists can do for their patients is inspiring.”
In her spare time, Amy likes travelling, eating wonderful food and enjoying life with her family and friends.
Mark trained in the UK as a motor mechanic and started his sales career selling car batteries. Following that he spent 7 years in financial services. His medical sales career began in 1997 with Visitec, before joining a large medical distributor selling ophthalmic devices and equipment. Mark also spent 2 years in orthopaedic sales before he moved to Australia in 2006 where he continued to work in ophthalmic sales and celebrates 25 years in ophthalmology.
Mark joined the Glaukos family in 2015, although he was part involved with the initial launch of the original iStent when it was being sold through a distributor.
When asked what he enjoys most about his job, Mark said: “Making a difference by being able to help highly educated and skilled professionals develop additional skills to help patients fight glaucoma with a unique product that is tried and tested and has proved its worth.” “Looking to the future, it is exciting to see the additional products being developed to further fight this disease.”
His time away from work is spent with his three boys, enjoying basketball, DIY and relaxing. He is a lifelong Tottenham Hotspur supporter. (That’s football, or soccer, as the Aussies would say)
Paul completed a Bachelor of Education at the University of Melbourne. In addition to his initial secondary teaching career, Paul held positions in medical sales, training and management roles in contact lens, ophthalmics, neurosciences, pharmaceutical and surgical businesses.
Paul was a founding member of the BOTOX team and for 12 years he was referred to by many as “The BOTOX Man”. He has over 20 years’ experience in ophthalmology.
Paul joined Glaukos in 2015 and when invited to share what he loves about his job, Paul’s response was: “I particularly enjoy sharing in the satisfaction that surgeons get when they challenge themselves and master a new Glaukos product procedure.”
In his free time, Paul enjoys, camping, golf, the company of family at the dinner table over a nice meal, glass of wine and having a laugh with the four kids.
Carmine completed his Orthoptic and Ophthalmic Sciences degree in 2012 at La Trobe University. Carmine started his career working in ophthalmic sales at the age of 21 years old, having amassed over 2 decades of experience in ophthalmology, ranging from anterior segment, posterior segment and glaucoma. Carmine has an in depth understanding of all things ophthalmology and is passionate about making a difference with his customers.
Carmine joined Glaukos in 2017 and when invited to share what he loves about his job, Carmine’s response was:
Carmine says “The most enjoyable part of the job is working in theatre with the ophthalmologists and staff, focusing on education and training.” I particularly enjoy seeing the satisfaction surgeons get when they realise the differences that they have made for their patients.”
Carmine is known as “Spielberg” amongst the Glaukos family for his IT savviness, creativity and love of video editing.
Carmine is the father of 3 daughters and a son, much time is spent with them. Outside of time with the family, he enjoys lifting weights, tinkering on old cars and learning new languages.
David has worked predominantly in sales across several industries, including business, travel and real estate. For the past 19 years he has worked in medical sales, 17 of those in ophthalmic sales.
David is known as being passionate and conscientious amongst the Glaukos family. He has been with Glaukos since the company’s inception in Australia in 2015.
When asked what he enjoys most about working with Glaukos, David said, “Supporting the doctors, facilities and patients who gain the satisfying enhancement and protection of both vision and lifestyle.”
David enjoys spending time with his family, Bike riding and maintaining his Bonsai garden
Rick has over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology. He started his career as a service engineer before moving into surgical device sales. His technical knowledge and passion to teach led to Rick landing specialist equipment and clinical applications roles, which has allowed him to be involved in successfully launching new technologies into the ophthalmic market.
Rick joined Glaukos in 2016 and has grown the MIGs development in Western Australia to become a mainstream procedure.
When asked what he enjoys most about his job, he had this to say: “ I’m excited about the future with Glaukos. With several new technologies in the pipeline which cover cornea to retina , the company is expanding its wings in eye care health . I’ve been lucky enough to work with many ophthalmic surgeons over my career and introduce to them the iStent inject which has made a big impact on many thousands of patients.”
Ann Corcoran is a Registered Nurse and practiced clinically for 10 years. Ann started her sales career in pharmaceuticals and has 10 years’ experience as an ophthalmic sales representative. Most recently Ann spent 3 years in surgical disposable sales, wound and aged care. During her sales career, Ann has been awarded Representative of the Year three times.
Ann joined Glaukos in November 2018 as a Senior Regional Business Manager, supporting South Australia, and is thrilled to be back working in ophthalmology and supporting glaucoma business.
Ann enjoys working at Glaukos because of the company culture, products, teammates and customers.
Her team members describe Ann as “chatty,” “quick witted” and “very funny.”
In her free time Ann enjoys chatting, going out for dinner, walking along the beach, occasionally going to the gym, swimming…and talking backwards.
Chris has been in various optical roles for over 20 years. His career began as an optical technician before training to be a Dispensing Optician. After a brief career change to selling SCUBA equipment, Chris returned to optics, joining ZEISS in 2005 and remained there until 2018. In his time with ZEISS, Chris worked in sales and management roles and grew the IOL business from zero sales to a modest market share. Chris especially enjoyed working with Drs in the Pacific Islands where he was able to mix business with pleasure and include some diving during these trips.
Chris joined Glaukos in September 2019 and looks forward to helping NZ ophthalmologists to incorporate MIGS into their practices and potentially improve their patients’ quality of life.
In his free time, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife, as well as indoor climbing, fishing, technical SCUBA diving and many other water sports.
Neville graduated in 1995 from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Orthoptics). In 1997, Neville moved to Queensland where he worked as an orthoptist in a busy ophthalmic practice. During his medical sales career, Neville has held various roles in the optometric and ophthalmic equipment space with great success and boasts 25 years’ experience in ophthalmology. Neville also worked in real estate for 4 years.
Neville has enjoyed the National role as the Corneal Health Business Manager since Glaukos purchased Avedro in 2020. He finds himself racking up the frequent flyer points as he works closely with Ophthalmologists and their teams to provide great outcomes whilst utilising the iLink V Crosslinking portfolio.
When asked what he enjoys most about working for Glaukos he said, “They have a long term strategy of investing and delivering cutting edge technology, thereby helping Drs and their patients to potentially and significantly improve the long term visual outcomes and reduce the incidence of associated co-morbidity. I’m particularly excited about the behind the scene developments to our Corneal Health portfolio – lots of exciting things to come!”
In his spare time Neville enjoys spending time with his two boys, playing touch football, old man (over 45) AFL, and cooking whilst enjoying a good beer or wine.
